Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer Affirms Major Changes After Dismal Performance Against Broncos, Declares Cowboys Defense Will Return Strongly When Facing Arizona

After the bitter 24–44 defeat to the Denver Broncos in Week 8, Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has officially spoken out committing to major changes in the lineup and tactical operations. In Tuesday morning's press conference, the first-year HC admitted the entire team – especially the defense – has “lost itself”.
“No one is satisfied with what happened in Denver,” Schottenheimer said. “The way we defended is unacceptable. The Cowboys' standards are much higher than this. There will be changes – and I promise you will see the difference when we face Arizona.”
The loss to the Broncos sent the Cowboys plummeting in the NFC standings, while sparking a wave of criticism aimed at defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, who is said to lack flexibility in countering the opponent's fast-paced offense. Some tactical changes are also being tested, including increased pressure from the second level and more flexibility in zone blitz situations.
Schottenheimer shared more about the plan to restore spirit for his players:
“I told them: ‘Look straight in the mirror, take responsibility and move forward.’ That's the only way for us to return. We will respond by fighting – not complaining.”
The Cowboys players also showed determination in Monday's practice, with many collision drills and simulations of high-speed defensive situations. According to ESPN, the locker room atmosphere is “serious but more united than ever”.
