Seven months after claiming a Super Bowl LIX championship with the Philadelphia Eagles, veteran wide receiver Parris Campbell won’t be suiting up for the rival NFC East foes.
On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys’ PR team announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they’ve signed Campbell to their practice squad. The addition comes nine days after Dallas lost All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb to a high ankle sprain in a Week 3 defeat to the Chicago Bears.
The Cowboys initially inked Campbell in free agency when the new league year began, only to release him in August. Now, with Campbell having spent five months familiarizing himself with Dallas’ playbook, the team is bringing him back as an insurance policy amid a receiver shortage.
A former second-round pick (59th overall) by the Indianapolis Colts in 2019, Campbell earned a Super Bowl LIX ring when the Eagles toppled the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game. He appeared in all three postseason contests and suited up for five regular-season games, finishing with six catches for 30 yards and one touchdown, according to Pro Football Reference.
Parris Campbell Gets Another Chance To Revive His Career
A history of injuries hampered Campbell early in his career, limiting him to just 15 total games over his first three NFL seasons. He finally stayed healthy in 2022, delivering a solid campaign on a struggling Colts squad with 63 receptions for 623 yards and three touchdowns.
Campbell spent 2023 with the New York Giants, logging 20 catches for 104 yards in 12 games. It wasn’t an easy year with Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor, and even Danny DeVito under center for the Giants.
With Dallas thin on reliable receivers beyond George Pickens during Lamb’s absence, Campbell has an opening to step up and become a meaningful contributor to the Cowboys’ offense.
The Cowboys head to face the New York Jets at 1:00 PM EST on Sunday.
