The New Orleans Saints have officially bolstered their defense by signing veteran cornerback Michael Davis to a deal reportedly worth $5.8 million, as announced by Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis on Tuesday.
The move marks one of the Saints’ most notable midseason acquisitions, aimed at addressing their ongoing struggles in the secondary after an inconsistent start to the 2025 season. Davis, 30, brings eight years of NFL experience, having previously played for the Los Angeles Chargers (2017–2023) and the Washington Commanders (2024).

Standing 6’2” and weighing 196 pounds, Davis is known for his exceptional speed, press coverage ability, and ball-tracking instincts. Over his career, he has appeared in 122 games (76 starts), amassing 337 tackles (265 solo), 8 interceptions including one returned for a touchdown, and 70 pass breakups.
“We needed a veteran presence in our defensive backfield, and Michael checks every box,” said GM Mickey Loomis. “He’s got experience, intelligence, and a track record of making big plays against elite quarterbacks.”
Davis’s addition comes as the Saints continue to rebuild their defensive identity under head coach Kellen Moore, following their 26–14 victory over the New York Giants in Week 5. With young players like Alontae Taylor and Paulson Adebo still developing, Davis is expected to bring leadership and stability to the group.
Coach Moore added, “Michael has played in big moments. He understands how to read offenses and communicate across the field — something our defense needs right now.”
Alongside Davis’s signing, the Saints also made several roster adjustments, including adding WR Ronnie Bell and TE Moliki Matavao to the practice squad while parting ways with RB Velus Jones Jr.
With Davis now in the mix, New Orleans hopes to fortify its secondary and maintain momentum heading into Week 6 against the New England Patriots.
⚜️ Michael Davis joins the Black and Gold as both a weapon and a warning — that the Saints are serious about fixing their defense before it’s too late.
