After widespread backlash from fans and a public call for disciplinary action by Saints owner Gayle Benson, New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has officially apologized to New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Carl Granderson for his unsportsmanlike behavior during Week 5’s matchup between the Saints and Giants.
The incident occurred midway through the third quarter when Skattebo appeared to forcibly press Granderson to the ground after the play had already ended — an act widely condemned across the NFL community as disrespectful and unnecessary. Video of the moment quickly went viral, sparking outrage on social media.

Skattebo also revealed that he had personally reached out to Granderson after the game to offer a direct apology:
“I want to sincerely apologize to Carl Granderson, the New Orleans Saints organization, and all fans.
Emotions got the best of me in that moment — that’s not who I am, and I take full responsibility for my actions.”
“I have great respect for Carl and how he plays the game. I hope we can move past this and continue competing with the spirit and respect the NFL stands for.”
Sources within the Saints organization confirmed that Carl Granderson responded calmly, appreciating the apology and emphasizing that “what matters most is learning from mistakes and moving forward.”
Saints head coach Kellen Moore also addressed the matter during a post-practice press conference:
“We’re all human — mistakes happen. What matters is accountability. I respect Cam for owning up to it. That’s the kind of integrity this game needs.”
While the NFL disciplinary office is still reviewing the incident, reports suggest Skattebo will likely face a monetary fine rather than a suspension, given his swift apology and willingness to take responsibility.
Though the altercation briefly overshadowed the Saints’ 26–14 victory, both players’ professionalism in handling the aftermath has turned a negative moment into a lesson in respect, accountability, and true sportsmanship — values the game of football was built upon. ⚜️🏈
