Mr Clark Hunt Head of the Chiefs, Officially Files Complaint with NFL Over Brian Branch and Juju Smith-Schuster Incident in Chiefs vs Lions Game
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Clark Hunt, CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs, has officially filed a complaint with the NFL regarding an unfortunate incident following the Chiefs vs Detroit Lions game at Arrowhead Stadium, where the Chiefs secured a 30-17 victory. The focal point is the actions of Lions cornerback Brian Branch, who punched Chiefs wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster in the face, causing minor injury, immediately after the final whistle.

According to the Chiefs’ medical team, Smith-Schuster suffered bruising on his left cheek and had to leave for further evaluation, though no serious damage was reported. Hunt insists the incident stemmed from no provocation by Smith-Schuster or any Chiefs player. Instead, it originated from Branch’s negative demeanor, marked by unprovoked aggression. Notably, earlier in the game, Branch refused to shake hands with Patrick Mahomes—a traditional sports gesture—raising questions about his sportsmanship.
During an emergency press conference, Hunt expressed deep frustration. He emphasized that Branch’s actions not only harmed Smith-Schuster but also challenged the professionalism in the NFL. "We cannot accept behavior that injures our players; you all saw how terrified Schuster was in that moment. Refusing to shake Mahomes’ hand only further shows Branch’s poor attitude – the NFL must act to protect respect in this sport and suspend him through the season."
The Lions have stated they are conducting an internal investigation but have yet to issue an official comment. Meanwhile, Chiefs fans on social media have voiced strong support for punishing Branch, labeling his actions as “unacceptable toxic behavior.” The incident has further intensified tensions between the two teams following a drama-filled match.
With this complaint, the NFL is expected to review the case thoroughly, especially with ESPN video evidence clearly capturing the punch and Branch’s demeanor. Will a suspension be imposed, or will this incident fade as a mere blemish? The answer will soon emerge, but this event has undoubtedly left a significant mark on the 2025 season.
