Packers Rookie Anthony Belton Sits Out Practice After Donating Bl00d for Mother’s Heart Surgery
Green Bay, October 7, 2025
The Green Bay Packers’ practice session saw an unexpected absence, but it stemmed from a deeply personal act of sacrifice rather than football. Rookie offensive tackle Anthony Belton skipped team drills after donating blood to aid his mother’s heart valve replacement surgery.
Coaches confirmed Belton’s absence was precautionary to ensure his recovery. The 24-year-old, selected in the second round (No. 54 overall) from NC State in the 2025 NFL Draft, has shown promise despite his off-field commitment.
Standing 6-foot-6 and 326-336 pounds with 34 ⅝-inch arms, Belton brings power and versatility to Green Bay’s line, capable of playing tackle or guard. In four games, he’s logged 120 snaps (35% of team reps), earning a Pro Football Focus grade of 66.8, with 70.2 in pass protection and 63.4 in run blocking.
Despite four penalties for 45 yards, mostly holding, Belton has yet to allow a sack or pressure, a testament to his adjustment to NFL speed. His size and footwork make him a potential long-term starter, especially with veterans Zach Tom and Aaron Banks nursing injuries.
Head coach Matt LaFleur praised Belton’s priorities: “Family comes first. Anthony’s strength off the field mirrors what he brings to the game. He’ll be back soon, but right now, he’s exactly where he needs to be.”
For Packers fans, Belton’s selflessness cements his place in the Green Bay family. As the 3-1 team rests during their bye week, his character and potential shine as brightly as his on-field contributions.
