ROSTER MOVE: Steelers Open Practice Window for young talent WR with a 500+ Yard Season – Eligible to Return and Start vs. Packers After Injury Recovery.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – October 24, 2025
Just days before their crucial Week 8 matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Acrisure Stadium, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been forced to make adjustments to their receiving corps after wide receiver Scotty Miller suffered a finger injury during midweek practice.

According to the latest injury report, Miller was listed as a limited participant, marking the first time this season he’s appeared on the injury list. While his official game status remains uncertain, sources inside the organization say the Steelers are already preparing contingency plans to maintain depth at the position.
The next man up is Calvin Austin III, the speedy receiver who’s finally set to make his return after missing multiple weeks due to injury. Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Austin has looked sharp in practice and is on track to be active against Green Bay.
“Calvin brings the kind of energy and explosiveness our offense thrives on,” Tomlin said. “He’s worked hard to get back, and we believe this is the right time to get him on the field again.”
Meanwhile, Scotty Miller (28) — once known as one of the NFL’s premier deep threats during his stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019–2022) — is best remembered for his breakout 2020 season, when he recorded 501 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, including a crucial 39-yard catch in the NFC Championship Game that helped Tampa Bay defeat Green Bay and advance to Super Bowl LV.
Since joining the Steelers in 2024, Miller has been used in rotational packages as a vertical field-stretcher. Over the past two games, he’s logged 34 offensive snaps and caught one pass for nine yards, primarily lining up on the outside. However, this latest injury could further limit his role moving forward.
In contrast, Calvin Austin III’s return injects new life into Pittsburgh’s offense. During his rookie campaign in 2023, Austin posted 431 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns, showcasing exceptional burst and elusiveness on short-yardage plays.
“We always emphasize depth and flexibility at the receiver position,” Tomlin added. “When one guy goes down, another has to be ready to seize the opportunity.”
If Scotty Miller is ruled out, he’s expected to still contribute on special teams, while Calvin Austin III will likely take on a larger offensive role against the Packers — a game where speed and separation could be key to reigniting the Steelers’ attack.
