After a video went viral on social media showing a violent altercation between a New Orleans Saints fan and a Chicago Bears fan at Caesars Superdome, Saints owner and CEO Gayle Benson issued a strong public response. The 20-second clip shows a Saints fan and a Bears fan shouting at each other before a physical fight breaks out in the south stands. The first punch sends one man tumbling into the seats, sparking chaos among the crowd and frightening nearby children. The incident occurred during the Saints’ 26–14 loss to the Bears and quickly amassed over 6 million views on X (Twitter).
“I’m deeply disappointed to see something like this happen inside our home stadium,” Benson said in the statement. “Passion for the Saints should always be expressed through unity and respect. While it appears the Bears fan initiated the confrontation, responding with violence is never acceptable. One wrong cannot be justified by another.”
Speaking with a mix of firmness and emotion, Benson continued:
“I’ve watched the video multiple times, and each time, I just felt sadness. This is not who we are, and it’s not how we want New Orleans to be seen. Every fan who wears black and gold represents a city, a culture, and a legacy. I will never allow anyone to tarnish that.”
According to Caesars Superdome security, the identities of both fans were confirmed through surveillance footage and electronic ticket records. Both will be barred from all Saints events for the remainder of 2025, and the organization is coordinating with the NFL to tighten security measures, especially in lower bowl seating areas.
Benson also announced the launch of a new campaign titled “Play Like a Saint – Cheer Like a Saint,” encouraging fans to support their team with passion but also with respect.
“We can lose a game,” Benson said, “but we can never lose who we are. Football is meant to bring people together – not drive them apart.”
