Steelers Strike Deal with Top-1 Draft Board QB – Owner of Over 1,200 Yards, 12 Touchdowns, $140 Million Trade Could Reshape the NFL and Redefine Pittsburgh’s Future
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – October 22, 2025
The Pittsburgh Steelers may have found their “chosen one” for the future. According to multiple reports from NFL Draft Buzz, CBS Sports, and Athlon Sports, the Steel City franchise is zeroing in on Ty Simpson, the young quarterback from Alabama Crimson Tide, as one of their top targets for the 2026 NFL Draft.

At just 21 years old, Simpson is putting together a breakout season for Alabama. Through five games, he has completed 68% of his passes for over 1,200 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only two interceptions — impressive numbers given the elite level of SEC defenses he’s faced.
“He’s got it all — quick release, vision, poise, and leadership,” said head coach Mike Tomlin when asked about Simpson. “If Ty joins the Steelers, I’ll turn him into a top quarterback in the NFL. A talent like his just needs to be placed in the right system — and Pittsburgh is the perfect place for that.”
According to CBS Sports, Simpson currently ranks inside the top 10–15 overall and is the No. 4 quarterback in the 2026 class (per NFL Draft Buzz). He’s projected to be a first-round pick between 10–32 overall, with a strong chance to rise into the top five if he maintains his current pace — especially after his standout performance against Georgia on September 27, 2025, highlighted by an impressive middle-of-the-field improvisation play.
If selected within the top 10, Simpson’s rookie contract value could include:
-
Total value: $25–35 million over 4 years
Signing bonus: $10–15 million
Average annual value (AAV): $15–20 million
Guarantees: 100% of the first two years, with a fifth-year team option
By comparison, recent top quarterback deals such as Caleb Williams (2024 – $39.5 million per year) set the precedent. Should Simpson be drafted within the top five, he could command a four-year deal worth between $100–140 million, depending on incentives and structure.
Steelers scouts have already attended at least three Alabama games this season, underscoring their strong interest. If Simpson continues to progress at this rate, Pittsburgh could very well stake its future on him — the next potential symbol of a modern “Steel Curtain Era.”
“Ty doesn’t just play football — he controls the game,” said one Steelers scout. “That’s what separates a good quarterback from a great one.”
In a season where the Steelers are rebuilding their offense and searching for a long-term successor to Aaron Rodgers, Ty Simpson might just be the answer they’ve been waiting for.
