We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Fahnhorst, a distinguished former player of the San Francisco 49ers and three-time Super Bowl champion, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 66. His departure leaves a profound sense of loss among football fans and the 49ers community.
Jim Fahnhorst joined the 49ers in 1984 after playing in the USFL. Selected in the fourth round by the Minnesota Vikings, he spent his entire NFL career in San Francisco, contributing to the team’s triumphant victories in Super Bowls XIX, XVIII, and XXIV. Over seven seasons, Fahnhorst appeared in 82 games, starting 38, and made his mark with 232 tackles, seven interceptions, and one sack. He also participated in six postseason games, showcasing his talent and dedication.
Beyond his athletic prowess, Fahnhorst was a true part of the 49ers family. He was the younger brother of Keith Fahnhorst, a legendary offensive lineman who played 14 years with San Francisco. The two brothers shared the field for four seasons, creating unforgettable memories on the gridiron.
