Tyler Lockett Shares Why He Left Seattle – And the Special Gift for Rising Talent Jaxon Smith-Njigba After the 1,111-Yard Milestone a Number Special in His Life.
Las Vegas, Nevada – November 14, 2025
Tyler Lockett had an impressive 2024 season with the Seattle Seahawks, playing all 17 games, recording 49 receptions, 600 yards, and 2 touchdowns. However, despite being the third WR behind DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Lockett faced a tough decision when Seattle restructured his contract to save cap space, leading to his release.

After being released by the Seahawks, Lockett explained that his decision not to return wasn’t about money or opportunity, but about giving the next generation the chance to shine. "I’m happy to see the Seahawks fighting with heart – the way we used to," Lockett said. "Jaxon Smith-Njigba has the grit and poise you can’t teach. The Seahawks are coming back, and that makes me prouder than ever."
Although no longer playing for Seattle, Lockett still holds deep affection for his former team, especially for Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the young player who surpassed the 1111-yard milestone this season. Lockett sent Smith-Njigba a special gift: the "Through the Fire" bracelet, a token Lockett wore during his breakout season. Lockett explained the significance of the gift:
"It’s great to see the Seahawks fight with all their hearts – just like we used to. Jaxon Smith-Njigba has the grit and poise you can’t teach. He’s shown he’s ready to take on any challenge. The Seahawks are on the path back to greatness, and that makes me prouder than ever."
Although Lockett now plays for the Las Vegas Raiders, he continues to follow Smith-Njigba’s progress and feels proud to see him becoming one of the most promising young receivers in the NFL. Lockett, even though no longer playing for Seattle, remains an important part of the team’s ongoing development, leaving an impact not only through his records but also through the fighting spirit he passed on to the next generation of players.
Tyler Lockett may no longer play for Seattle, but his legacy and influence continue to live on in the team, especially through players like Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who continue to carry forward the fighting spirit Lockett instilled.
